Primal Rage is a fighting game similar to Mortal Kombat. You battle with a side-view of both characters on the screen. Special moves and fatalities are included. And, in addition to the usual health meter, there is a smaller meter with your brain next to it. When the fliud in the bar runs out, you are flung into a daze and temporarily immobilized (this decreasing of the fluid occurs more and more when you're getting beat up). The graphics are also very satisfying, with stop-motion animation that gives you that classic arcade feel. The visuals are great, and the characters are just plain awesome. So, speaking of characters, here is a summarization of the fighters and their battlegrounds:
ARMADON: Much like a brown triceratops (although it stands on two feet) with spikes and horns as his main weapons. He lives in "The Hollows", an underground cave-like setting.
BLIZZARD: Basically a huge blue gorilla with wild hair. Powers of the cold (you know, kind of like "Sub-Zero" in MK) are his main weapons. He lives in "The Cliff", a mountainous area with lots of snow and ice.
CHAOS: Another giant ape, although a bit smaller than Blizzard and red in color. Much of his fighting power comes in the form of his control over his bodily fluids (yeah, this dude's kinda nasty). He lives in "The Ruins", which is basically a destructed city.
DIABLO: Much like a red T-Rex. His main weapons would probably be considered his power over fire. Lives in "The Inferno", which is basically a crumbly land full of valcanos.
SAURON: Another T-Rex-like character, this one being a yellowish tint. He doesn't really have many supernatural powers or a "theme", so his main weapons would probably just be his strength and massive size. He dwells in "The Cove", a sandy area next to the ocean (yes, like a beach, but it's not really as pathetic as it sounds).
TALON: Much like a Velociraptor. This little booger's fast and sharp, so his main danger would have to be those claws! He lives in "The Strip", which appears to be a spot of grasslands.
VERTIGO: Like some wicked mix between a snake and an I-don't-know-what-the-hell-it-could-be-but-it-sure-is-ugly, this is the only female in the game. Her powers are those of mind-tricks mostly. She lives in "The Tomb", a Stonehenge-style grassy area.
In conlusion, this is obviously a great game. But, of course, you've got to play it to appreciate it. I'm not huge on video games, but I've always enjoyed Primal Rage to it's fullest. With plenty of reason to play this over and over again, I'd recommend it to any fan of fighting games. Lot's of fun, plenty of gore, and a great theme/storyline.
(Note: Technically, this review was written for the PC version, yet there is pretty much no difference between the two. So these comments are in reference to either one.)

Primal Rage is a Arcade Fighting game ported to the PlayStation by Atari. The story has a apocalyptic story line as the world goes back to the Pre-Histories when a meteor hits Earth (now Urth). Seven Creatures Emerge and reek havoc on the people. Each Dinosaur is a god to different areas.Gameplay: 8 out of 10
Plays like a normal Arcade fighter except instead of People it is Dinosaurs and each fighter has there own fatalities.
Sound: 4 out of 10
There really is no music except for the menu and selection screen
Graphics: 7 out of 10
Good for its time
Value: 9 out of 10
Playing as Dinosaurs and Apes make this game different than the rest.
and the humorous ape Chaos's fatalities (and other fatality's) make this game fun.

Story: This game actually has a story to it. A fighting game with a story, who knew. The story is: A meteor struck the Earth, and caused great chaos. Seven gods from ancient times awoke, and are now attempting to take control of the post-apocalyptic world. These seven gods are giant dinosaurs and apes which is pretty cool. Now, as one of these crazy blood thirsty monsters, you are set out to conquer the Earth. The story is pretty good in my opinion.Gameplay: This fighting game is unlike any other fighting game you'll ever play. I say that because you get to fight as dinosaurs and giant apes, how cool is that ? In this game you play as one of seven dinossaurs/apes (five dinosaurs and 2 apes to be exact). You can either play as Diablo, a hellish looking T-rex, Blizzard, a cold blooded killer ape, Sauron, a crazy telepathic T-rex, Talon, a crazy fast and deadly raptor, Vertigo, the poisonous long necked dino, Chaos, a crazy King kong like ape, and Armadon, a vicious crazy triceratops. Well, just like any other fighting game you got your basic moves like you got your high and low attacks. But, instead of punching and kicking like humans do, in Primal Rage you get to tail whip, bite, slash with your claws, and kick slash with your claws too. Mixing some of those moves up add up to some deadly combos. If you do these fast enough you can make your enemy brain dead for a couple of seconds which means they can't move and it's your chance to get more attacks on your opponent which is very helpful. Each character has there own special moves like Blizzard has his Ice breath attack, and Chaos with his weird fart bubble attack which is weird but cool, Sauron has his telekinetic force field, Diablo has his fireball attack which is pretty rad and those are just some of the cool special moves you can pull off. After you have beaten your opponent in two rounds, you can choose to humilliate them by performing a finishing move on them. (like a fatality on mortal kombat). For example, Sauron's Crusher, he just jumps really high in the air and then he just stomps on corpse and turns it into mushy guts. It's a pretty awesome finishing move. Primal Rage has a 2-player versus mode which is pretty fun to whoop your friends at.
Graphics: The graphics look great with it's awesome looking levels like Diablo's level that has the raging volcano is nice to look at as is Armadon's cave level which looks too cool. The dinosaurs/apes themselves just look fantastic. Blood spraying out of your opponent and yourself is just plain brutal and awesome to look at as is watching your opponents heart explode when you just beaten him.
Sound: The music in the game is interesting with its tribal tunes. The roar and yelps of the dinos/apes sound outstanding.
Replay Value: This is one of those fighters that you come back to in like a week or so. The 2-player versus mode well definetly bring you back as well as the single player. All in all it's a great fighting game that should be played from time to time.
