My five-year-old hasn't been interested in the Wii system UNTIL I rented this game for him. Some research online revealed the song list and once I saw "who let the smurfs out" and "I like to Smurfit, Smurfit", I realized the game had a few songs he could really dance to. Watching my son attempt the moves, had me cracking up and he was having FUN (all while moving).
I had rented it to check it out myself first. It's an easy game that doesn't have little ones earning points for blowing heads off any type of being. You earn points for the dance moves you get right and the point system appears to be pretty lenient. I gave it four starts because my eight-year-old wasn't into it (he loves Mario cart). It's made for young kids who don't even pay attention to the words, if they do happen to catch some that you think are questionable explain it to them parent them guide them.
"The only thing more fleeting than summer is childhood."

Love Love Love this! I could not believe just how cute and fun they have made this. My son and I laughed and danced and had a ball!!! As for the reviewer that said there is bumping and grinding , I have yet to see any of it! I could not imagine watching or participating in this dance party and coming up with nasty thoughts as they have written. We see things as we are and that says a lot about that individual. Please rent it if you are unsure (because of other reviews) and see for yourself! I do not enjoy video games but this is FUN FUN FUN!. So happy to have something that I can say YES when my son asks me to play with him on the Wii.Honest reviews on The Smurfs Dance Party - Nintendo Wii
Got this for our girls, 3&6; they watched the Smurf movie in theaters last month and just loved it, and I grew up with the SMurfs and always loved them. We also have Just Dance 2 and Just Dance Kids. The concept is the same as those dance "games"...some of the dances are really cute and the songs are funny (who let the smurfs out, I like to smurf it) and it makes my 3 yr old just laugh and laugh and she really tries to follow along with the dance...and some are just harder and ones I have never heard of before. Some of our other favorites are "We Have Us", "Boom Shak A Lak", and "Go Go Go Get It".There are some real annoying ones that we skipped after doing once (Barbara Streisand?? why is that in there?)
For the price, I just kinda expected a little bit more but the girls love it and I will admit I do enjoy dancing to some of the songs. ITs also nice that the remote will vibrate in your hand if you get a "perfect" score, the girls really enjoy that and it helps them realize they are doing the moves right. I would recommend this to a Smurf fan...but try to get it on sale!

We rented this game from Blockbuster for my daughters (4 and 7) who were GaGa for the game since we saw the movie when it was released (the movie is cute too). The game itself is very easy to navitate with the Wii Remote. You can choose to start dancing, or follow a story. The story walks you through cut scenes from the movie as narrated by Papa Smurf. The "Start Dancing" takes you directly to a selection of dances and songs. Either way, the selection of dances and songs is the same. If you haven't seen the movie, then the "story" mode will get you up to speed. Most of the on-screen characters are computer animated smurfs from the movie. There is one song with Gargamel, a human character, that is a bit creepy to watch (my kids tell me so) but other than that, most of the dances show smurfs.
You can dance with or without a Wii Mote. Score is kept only if you use the Wii mote. No Nunchuck required. Simply put the Wii remote in your right hand and follow the dance moves on-screen. Sure, you can cheat and just move your arm in sync with the motions, but that takes all the fun out of it.
The music is unique (you probably won't hear them on any radio stations) but fun. The character movements are fluid. Near the bottom of the screen is an indicator that lets you know what the next shape will be (like the old Tetris games) so you can read ahead. Even the lyrics to the songs are scrolled on-screen so you can sing along.
I have used many of the Dance Dance revolution games in an attempt to get my kids off the couch and dance to music. Most are unsuccessful. But, the Smurfs is a big hit because of the simple controls and easy interface. Like I said before, you don't need a Wii Mote to dance without a score, so the number of users is really unlimited! Enjoy!
