I bought this on my 3DS using Club Nintendo points, and I don't know how I missed it before. The game was very large, difficult, and creative. I always hated the original arcade Donkey Kong. Mario died if you fell off a ledge (Yet he could withstand falling off of planets in Mario Galaxy), his hammer was useless because he could not climb up a ladder, and it only had 4 levels (3 in the NES port). This game fixed everything. Mario could fall to the next platform (but not all of the way to the ground), he could throw his hammer up and then climb a ladder before it fell, and the game included 100 LEVELS! Every level seemed to put Mario's moves at full power, he did a hand stand, climbed a vine, grabbed enemies, etc. After about 2-4 levels Mario faces Donkey Kong, which gets really interesting. One boss level was the first level Donkey Kong Jr., another ironically had Jr. flipping switches for his dad, and in one Mario had to climb up a massive bunch of ledges carrying a barrel to throw at DK. Every time Donkey Kong would grab Pauline and run away. The soundtrack is ultra catchy, even though the 8-bit tunes can be weak at times. If you don't play this, you are missing out on the world's greatest puzzles and challenges.Best Deals for Donkey Kong
Yes, I am writing this review in 2011, and the game is quite old.Yes, the graphics aged quite a bit.
But but but...
It's such a great game!
It's much funnier than any of the more recent "Mario vs. Donkey Kong"
The level design is simply amazing, extremely clever, specially toward the end.
The game is so good that you quickly forget about the graphics.
The gameplay also surprised me. I thought Super Mario 64 was revolutionary, but many of Mario's movements were actually already included in this game (like the triple jump).
If you are a fan of retro games, or Mario (the 2D games), or Mario vs. Donkey Kong, then get this game and play it.
I loved it from the beginning till the end.
I don't often finish games but this one I did finish.
