Skylanders Spyro's Adventure Prism Break Review

Prism Break is unique among other earth-type Skylanders in that he has long-range attacks (energy beams, further lengthened in range by usage of summoning crystal shards) and close-up crystal attacks. He's also kinda fast for an earth-type too (then again, most Skylanders, surprisingly, are fast). His other advantage is that... well... you don't need a pickaxe in the mines levels when you have Prism Break, plus.... he can do something other earth Skylanders can't do (something with those big purple crystals that "usually" need a bomb to get through.... hint HINT).

A good ranged "bulldozer/blowtorch" add-on to your Skylander party/army.

Prism Break is a cool Skylander because of his ability to break crystals and rocks in the game without the use of a pickaxe. The unfortunate things is that he's just a hard character to use during battles.

-He's slow, he can't fly, and doesn't really have options to get any faster.

-His energy beam must be held down to do damage, but you can't move while using it. You can't "shoot & run" which is necessary against many stronger enemies.

-You can drop crystals, which create multiple beams when directing your lasers through it, but to do this you have to position yourself just right then remain in that position. It's just not realistic to set up several crystals then daisy-chain your beams through them battles in this game just aren't that strategic.

This was my son's #1 wanted Skylander, but as the levels get harder, we found ourselves using him much less often.

In the most hateful review it said that its hard to position the crystals that fall from the sky but if you just kill one enemy it becomes a crystal and then that crystal kills another enemy and so on. Other than that his beam attack does around 20 damage and his rock somersault does 30 damage. The one thing that's a bit annoying is that you can't move while shooting the beam. To be honest with you he is quite good at taking out big crowds but besides that he isn't very good. I'd much sooner have someone like Hex, Terrafin or Ignitor. Unless you really badly want him I wouldn't get him.

Prism Break is a big bunch of rock with crystals coming out of him. His "A" attack is he shoots beams out of his crystal hands. His "X" attack is he makes crystals fall out of the sky and then he can use his "A" attack to shoot the crystals and make them longer. His "B" attack is he jumps up in the air, does a flip, lands and shakes around and lots of crystals come around him. One of his upgraded attacks is he turns his crystals orange. Another one is that the crystals that fall out of the sky he makes even bigger.

My kids love these Skylander characters! But be sure not to pay more than the MSRP. A popular character like Prism Break may sale out quickly. But Amazon always refill their inventory and sell them at or below MSRP.
