At first the game seems to be a simple jump-and-slash platformer. But as you level up your highly-varied skill tree and armor, you realize the game mechanics are much deeper. This game is often referred to as one of those MetroidVania games, which is an apt description. You can openly explore the castle, but you may quickly find out which areas are too tough for you until you gain more experience and loot. The enemies are varied for each section of the castle, and the bosses are challenging enough without being 'cheap'.
The best and most innovative part about this game is the fact that when you die (and you will die often) you return as one of your heirs. Each 'hero' has their own set of attributes. Some are bald, gay, dwarfs, dyslexic, OCD, etc. While some attributes are benign, others give you certain perks or hindrances. Eventually you will come to see which ones suit you best, but going through them is quite amusing.
I have not had this much fun with a platformer in years and I highly recommend you check out this hidden gem.

It's definitely a good game, with solid platforming. I guess for me though, is that I just didn't buy into the hype surrounding this game and for good reason. There are plenty of issues with this game, first and foremost is the feel of the controls though. Controls were good, but felt just a little sloppy, not nearly as tight as say a Super Meat Boy or a Shovel Knight. There was also the issue of the difficulty, it just didn't feel right and I'm a very experienced platform gamer and had some major issues at times getting through certain areas. Overall it's good, just not as great as some other games in this genre. Definitely give it a go if you're into Metroidvania-type games.
