So here is a little review for DDP DOJ BL.
This game is really unforgiving, therefor hard to play but its fun from the first second.
To keep in mind, every DDP is kinda the same but this one will really test your gaming skills, its fast, bullet hell, you surely need good reflexes to make it to the last boss.
The level design is really well done, the ship designs are also well done. Many enemies coming down the way, also bullets, fireballs and the likes and there are no noticeable slowdown though the game.
The music is as you would expect from DDP and just fitting in pretty well.
Replay value is medium to high.
If you're into shmups go buy it.

DoDonPachi Daioujou Black Label Extra is quite the name. The DonPachi series could be considered developer CAVE's flagship title, with several releases over the years.DaiOuJou released in arcades in 2002, expanding on the formula made popular in DonPachi and DoDonPachi. You pilot a space ship (or helicopter, depending on your ship selection), shoot enemy tanks and aircraft, all while dodging massive amounts of bullets. New in this edition are Hypers, which are used to increase firepower for short periods of time.
The DonPachi series' trademark is enemy chaining. Each time you destroy an enemy, you have a second or so to destroy another enemy to add to your kill chain. This builds with each successive kill, increasing the value of the chain. Failing to kill another enemy swiftly breaks the chain, and the process starts all over. You can also use the laser weapon on a large enemy to stop the chain from running out (necessary since some enemy's take several seconds to fully destroy). It's a simple system to understand, however executing a stage-long chain is very difficult and will take many hours to master.
Even if you ignore chaining and just try to survive, DaiOuJou is still a hard game. However the game never feels cheap, and each time I die I never feel like there was no way to live through it. The visuals are crisp and clear, and enemy bullets stand out nicely from the background making it easy to track them.
In addition to the normal arcade game, we also get the Black Label version. This is a tweaked rebalanced version and offers more options then the original. Also included is a new arrangement called "X mode", which has significantly changed gameplay mechanics. If you need a break from the main game, X mode offers something different to try and is much easier to clear. Not included on this disc is Death Label from the PS2 release (which was basically a boss rush; honestly I don't miss it).
The online leaderboards are really nice, allowing you to track your improvement and compare to others. You can also download replays to see how other players chain enemies together, and get ideas to improve your play.
The only real complaint I have in this release is the menus. They can be very counter-intuitive at times, with options not located where I would expect to find them. Also, the button used to exit menus is different depending on which screen you're looking at, causing more confusion. There is also a large load time when the disc is first inserted, however once you get into the game the load times are minuscule so I can live with it. Definitely go online and grab the patches, which clean up the menus somewhat.
